Life IS Too Short: Find Success Doing What You Love to Do!

By Sharon Capehart

I’d like to start by asking a real simple question. How many of you truly love what you do for a career? Does it excite you, does it motivate you, or does it inspire you to do the best you can? I wish all of you could respond with a ‘Yes’ but I know that isn’t the case. True success comes from following your true passions and allowing them to become what defines what you do.

Many years ago, a friend of mine was a scientist and he was really good at it too. He had professional accolades, a good career, and the respect of his peers. There was just one challenge though. He wasn’t passionate about it. He was passionate about taking some of those skills he had learned in the field of science and hitting the ‘open market’ to see what he could do as an entrepreneur.

This was the best move he could have made and he reached new heights of success once was able to channel his skills and passions into pursuits that would make him happier and more successful. I want you to ask yourself ‘What is it that I truly want to do?’ Stated another way, if you could make money and a living doing anything you wanted to do, what would that activity be?

The answer to this question should be honest and from the heart. Don’t worry about whether or not you think it will work. If you’re doing something that you love to do, your passion for it and your understanding of what it means to be successful will open doors that you would have never thought to be there.

Life IS Too Short: Find Success Doing What You Love to Do!

Too many people have fallen into the trap of doing something they were qualified to do but that they didn’t love doing. This approach to life does pay bills but it is also not a recipe for success. Only true passion for the things we love can drive the kind of success that will be the most whole and the most fulfilling.

I’d like to offer you a quick two-step formula that will help you in this regard. First, brainstorm your true passions and remember not to discount anything. Just list what you love to do. Next, research your areas of passion and determine what possible business opportunities may lie with your passionate pursuits. Chances are, there is more out there than you first thought and they key now is to keep your eyes open for the opportunity that will bring you the kind of success that you’ve always dreamed of. It is there waiting for you; you just have to open your eyes and see it!

    • I have been working at a job that I no longer enjoy but stay because it pays very well and I’ll get a decent pension in a few months. I have been running my own business for the past 5 years while working full-time and although it has been very difficult with 2 jobs that take up most of my time, the intention was that I will have the business once I retire. I am now in the process of trying to “grow” it bigger so that I will be able to supplement my pension.
I would much rather be at home running my business than working the full-time job out of the home. I figure 1 more year and I’ll be doing just that…

    • I could not agree more. Just 3 yrs ago, I was in very poor health, too tired, couldn’t think clearly, and unable to lose ANY weight despite doing all the right things. I was desperately praying for an answer. That answer came for me with a nutritional cleansing system that changed my life! Within the first few days on this product, I had amazing energy, could think clearer, slept soundly for the first time in years, and dropped 2 dress sizes immediately! AND I got my life back. And without any intentions of building a home based business, I doubled my income while working a full-time job (everyone needs to experience residual income, and quit my job to work part-time from home earning a six-figure residual income! I love my life and I love having the opportunity to make a difference in other people’s lives as well. I cannot think of anything that I would rather be doing. Life is GREAT!

    • I am a teacher, and I love my students however it is getting more and more difficult to teach because they are all about a test. There is also a problem about accountability. I can’t do a parents job for them every day. Don’t get me wrong I truely care about whether or not these kids are successful but it take more than I have tooffer at times. I have been doing this for 12 years. I have been thinking about moving jobs, getting a master and teaching at a junior college but I am in debt personally and student loan as well. Any one got any advice???

    • Hi Sharon,

What an inspiring, intelligent article. Thanks. I’ve been a freelancer most of my life, in various careers – I was a jazz singer for many years, then a voice teacher, and a writer. Some careers have been more successful than others! Once I worked for a year reading Tarot cards on a big 900-line. It’s been awesome, but now I’m like … okay, where are the big bucks? So I appreciate your article and will take your advice to heart!

      Namaste,

    • Great Article!  THANK YOU

Having been in the mortgage industry for years, I was “woken up” abruptly last summer and had no clue what I was going to do.  I KNEW that I was going to find something that was not an 8–5 (I still have a little one at home) and I KNEW that I was going to choose something that was “Recession Proof” this time.  What did GOD bring me!? Make-Up!  No matter how broke a lady gets, she’ll always find money for lipstick, LOL. I’m happy, I’m making money and I’m identifying myself with not what others think of me, but by what I think of me!  Hugs, kelly

    • Here Here!  I can’t say how much in favor I am of following your dream in life!  I’m doing it now, and it feels amazingly awesome!  My biggest problem is shutting down at the end of the day!  Fabulously40 helps…it gives me a nice break!

My background is a one-time working mom, I worked from when my daughter was 7 weeks old (very hard) to when she was 3.  I got pregnant a year later and stayed home raising them for 18 years!  A couple of years ago, I got up the nerve to head back to school and pursue my dream of starting my own business.  I have to date earned a degree in Fitness&Nutrition, and 6 (yes, six!) certifications in fitness as well.  I’m working on a Masters/PhD in Holistic Nutrition and also a diploma in Cosmetology and Esthetics.  I have decided to also get my Certification in Advanced Yoga Instruction.  I do manage to juggle everything, and it does help that I have a good base of knowledge of these things to begin with, but it is such a joyous journey!  I’m busy as heck, and sometimes make huge demands on myself – but I’m loving every second of it!

You can learn  more about me, and what I'm doing at my website:  Nutrabeautiful, Inc.

    • Tell me how to do this.  I’ve already made the big jump and quit the job I hated for 20 years.  I don’t know how to get to the next step.  How do I go from my list of things I like to do, to making money doing them?

Add to this, I’m scared.  I’m starting to wonder if I made a giant mistake in quitting my job.  I hated it but at least I knew what I was doing.

    • Loved your article a lot. I own two businesses. I started a commercial cleaning busines in 2000 and still own and operate it. Two years ago I decided to look for something that I could sell online and offline and that I really believed in. I finally found that product….scented gourmet candles!!! I love the candles because they are non toxic…no paraffin and 90% of all women buy them throughout the year. I could not be happier with the choice I made. I am building the candle business so that I can eventually phase out of or sell the cleaning business. It is stressfree doing what you love.
