Mothers Day is just weeks away, did you know that?
Last year I published a book based on the Proverbs 31:10 verse "She is Worth More Than Rubies" and it spoke of the value of a wife and mother in the home.
With the demands we have in life, jobs, interests, needs, etc it is sometimes very hard to focus on our near and dear, those who really have need of us.
Nearly 15 years ago I went through a real struggle, coping with a corporate job and managing a household which consisted of a husband and 5 young daughters. I thought I was going to go crazy and I probably did, because a decision I made back then probably would not have come to fruition if it weren’t for some things that took place in my life to encourage me.
Have you noticed that when you are desperate and leaning towards a particular thought, that other things around you seem to congregate together to reinforce and confirm that thing?
This has been known as a number of things – I like to think of it as the RAS or the reticular activation system – what you think about you are drawn towards. Today many talk of The Secret or the Law of Attraction – it’s the same thing. But did you know that this is also a biblical principal? How about these for example?
Matt 7:7 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. (NLT)
Luke 11:10 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. (NLT)
Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. (NIV)
Gal 6:7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. (NIV)
For me, it was simple. I desperately wanted to be at home for my family. I needed to earn an income. I had good skills.
I won a coveted prize in my city – Secretary of the Year in 1993 and this was sponsored by Microsoft. Amongst my prizes was the full MS Office package of that time.
We didn’t have a PC at home at that stage but I said to my husband if we did, I could work at home. From that moment on a seed was sown in my head and within 6 months I’d left my safe, secure, government job and was setting up business at home.
I have not looked back – I love being home, I love that I have been here for our daughters as they grew up.
Going back to Mothers Day. The book I mentioned would make a wonderful gift for anyone you know who has the same hankering, the same passion, desire, call it what you will. I do believe that Worth More Than Rubies will not only confirm for the reader of their true worth but will also set them on the path to discovering what they can do to return home to work. Now, wouldn’t that make a wonderful Mothers Day gift?

Thanks Stephanie – still finding my way around here and trying to work out how to get the hyperlinks to work but worked out the image anyway.
Cheers!
Stephanie I agree with you, I think the cover is very catchy. I would get this for my mother, but the woman is nuts and never has time to read a book.
She is always running around like a maniac with all her grandchildren (which is very helpful), and enjoys doing so, but at the end of the day she would rather knit or play sudoko instead of reading.
I’ve tried getting her book after book but it just never works.
Of course, you should be very proud of writing your own book! With 5 daughters? You are superwoman!
Thanks both of you. Yes, 5 daughters. They were aged from 13 down to 7 when I started working at home (I have two step daughters so one of my natural daughters is 7 months younger than one of my step daughters) and they are now aged 27 through to 21. So the girls really do not remember what it was like to have me out at a job when they came home from school – I was always here for them. My husband and I married when the girls were aged 11 to 6, after having going out for a couple of years prior to that, so we’ve been a family for a major part of their lives.
Working at home, running a business and being here for our girls is the best decision I ever made.
Married to Graham, mother to 5 beautiful daughters, we live in Melbourne, Australia. Our girls are in their 20s now and 2 are married. Graham and I enjoy our lives and keep very busy. I run a fulltime Virtual Assistant practice and am also a blogger and author.
In 2006 I wrote a blog about the Proverbs 31 Woman which started out as a personal journey and study for me. But 10 months later and many thousands of visitors later, it became evident that the journey wasn’t just mine. The blog became the outline for my book “Worth More Than Rubies: The Value of a Work At Home Mum” which was published in 2007. It is now available online through Lulu.com in the US and in Australia at various bookstores and my own website. Hoping to announce it’s available through Amazon very soon!
