EXCITED ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS!

Tomorrow will be two months that I have been on a low-carb diet. In addition to trying to eat low-carb food, I have been walking for 30 minutes 3–5 times per week. Sometimes if the weather does not permit outdoor walking, I pop in a Leslie Sansone four mile walking video that I love. It takes about 60 minutes, but you truly move and get your heart rate up to walk off the pounds in the comfort of your own home. During my first month on this low-carb diet, I lost 7 lbs. and was very excited about it. However, during the past three weeks, my weight loss came to a screeching halt. Coincidentally, I went to a doctor appointment and was diagnosed with having an enlarged thyroid with nodules. Yikes! No wonder I was experiencing difficulties in losing more weight! One of the problems with hypothyroidism is that individuals can NOT lose weight. The good news is that today, as I was getting dressed to go to church, I was surprised to find my favorite black slacks to be way to big on me! I am not talking just a little bit loose, but more like falling off! Wow! I can’t believe that I am actually trimming down from size 12–14 (depending on where I shop!) to size 8!!! I went into my closet and pulled out a cute black pair of capri’s that have fancy beads across the pockets and outside seams. These are my “skinny” capri’s that I have not fit into for over two years and woo hoo! Today I fit into them!

    • Congrats Dana,

My hat is off to you, I can’t stick on any diet for this long.

What are you going to do for your thyroid?

    • Dana,

YOU GO GIRL! I’m doing a Happy Dance for you!:)

I got up to a 14 too and now I’m a 10. Can’t wait until I can ask you if I can borrow your size 8 capri’s. lol

I just sent you a PM with more info on the I Create My Body Program. I think this program will help us all to reprogram our minds. Hey Yana, it might help you stick to a diet too.

One thing I don’t do is say I’m on a diet. Think of it as changing your eating habits. Eating healthier foods. You can still eat pizza and chocolate cake. I think moderation is also the key.:)

      Blessings,
      Leslie

    • I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism about six months ago. I have been on Synthroid since then and it took care of my other symptoms, but my weight has not changed. I don’t know if my dose should be re-evaluated, or if my weight issue is due to something other than my thyroid. It is so frustrating since I never had a weight issue until recently.

I am now using an herbal weight loss suppliment. I have only been using it for a week, but it has eliminated my all-day cravings, and I notice I am not snacking hardly at all during the day. I am hoping with this, and the opportunity to get out more often due to the nicer weather will bring me to my size 8.

    • Hello, KMS MINERALS!

From what I have read, it sounds to me that your weight condition is very much related to your thyroid condition.
I have done much research on this and have discovered that not all individuals respond positively with the medication synthroid. The thyroid experts agree that the natural medication called Armour is usually very helpful for individuals who are not responding 100% with
Synthroid. There are wonderful books and websites for learning more about thyroid diseases and disorders. Here are some of my favorites that have been so informative and helpful:
www.thyroidpower.com (Dr. Richard Shames and wife Karilee Shames, RN, PHD, are very knowledgeable about traditional and natural methods of treatment for thyroid conditions.)

www.thyroid-info.com (Thyroid advocate, Mary Shomon, is very helpful and knowledgeable about thyroid conditions and she has quizzes on her website relating to thyroid disorders.)

www.endfatigue.com (Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum is leading researcher in the field of chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, but he provides very much helpful information about the thyroid and how it affects our health.)

      http://www.hotzehwc.com

      www.drlowe.com

Books: THYROID POWER by Richard Shames, M.D. and Karilee Halo Shames, R.N., PH.D., FROM FATIGUED TO FANTASTIC by Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D.

      http://www.armourthyroid.com (natural armour medication)

It sounds like you need a change in medication from synthetic to natural. Not all doctors agree with this because traditional doctors DO NOT like to step out of the “box“. Mary Shomon’s website has a directory to provide lists of doctors who have been helpful in providing excellent thyroid care to their patients. Check and see if there is a doctor listed in your area.

Also, what supplement are you taking to help with weight loss? Let me know how you are doing!

      Take care!

      Blessings,
      Dana

    • Yana, I am not taking anything as of yet for the thyroid condition because I am still having much testing done to get to the bottom of whatever is going on. Hopefully, my results will come in regarding my last thyroid tests to make a better diagnosis and then I can start medication.

Leslie, you are right that it is a LIFESTYLE CHANGE. I try to stay away from eating desserts, junk food and high-carb foods and drinks because that has been my downfall in gaining weight. However, as you said, moderation is the key to staying trim. Keeping active is another great idea because that way we can burn calories and fat! Keeping active not only helps with maintaining our weight, but it is
a great way to reduce stress and lift our spirits!

    • Dana-
Thank you so much for the info. I assumed it had to be something other than thyroid as my Doctor mentioned it. I guess it wouldn’t be the first time a doctor got it wrong. I look forward to checking into the research you have done. Thank you so very much! By the way, I am taking Triple Action Weight COntrol from Applied Nutrition. I got it at Walgreens.

    • Congratulations on the newer body! Don’t you LOVE those pants-falling-down moments?

Sounds like all that exercise is reshaping your body even if you don’t see much change on the scale.

Remember, weight is just one number is determining if you have a healthy body. Strength, flexibility and body fat composition are also important measurements.
