Part I
By Patty Kovacs
EVOLENCE is an advanced collagen-based structural dermal filler that provides long-lasting treatment for correction of moderate to deep facial wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds. The results of treatment with EVOLENCE are said to be immediate, with minimal to no downtime post-treatment, and clinically proven to last through 6 months. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration very recently (July 1, 2008) approved EVOLENCE for the correction of moderate to deep facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, you know, those ‘parenthesis’ around our mouths.
EVOLENCE is said to represent a breakthrough in the treatment of the effects of aging due to its patented GLYMATRIX Technology. Clinical trials demonstrated that the effects of treatment with EVOLENCE were proven to last through 6 months. Now that’s got my smile lines moving!
Injected just below the skin’s surface, EVOLENCE replaces facial collagen, which naturally depletes as a person ages, with naturally sourced collagen, (bovine sourced) adding volume to contour, fill, or smooth wrinkles and folds. Results offer a more refreshed, natural and youthful appearance of the skin.
Unlike other dermal fillers that use hyaluronic acid, which absorb water to create their effect, EVOLENCE is declared to be a true structural agent due to its three-dimensional collagen matrix. This collagen structure is said to benefit patients due to the minimal bruising and swelling that might otherwise result. EVOLENCE does not use chemicals for cross-linking like many other products do, but instead uses natural sugar to improve durability. EVOLENCE collagen is cross-linked through its patented GLYMATRIX™ Technology using the natural sugar, D-Ribose.
The GLYMATRIX process is designed to “mimic naturally-occurring collagen in the skin by creating a true structural framework with natural, durable cross-links to ensure filler longevity and provide consistent, predictable results using natural ingredients for natural-looking results”. Now that’s a mouth full but, heh, this stuff just might smooth it all out for us. And just who among us does not want natural looking results? I recently gasped, deepening my own nasolabials, when I viewed a renowned Dermatologist on Kathy Lee’s new show and the doc’s face was swollen looking from all the injectables. By the way she was injecting a guest LIVE on the show. I’ve actually interview the doc myself but it was a few years ago. She looked gorgeous then. She appears to be over-injecting now, I do declare.
EVOLENCE is said to be highly biocompatible and possesses a high safety profile. It’s undergone extensive biocompatibility testing, including cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, acute systemic toxicity, sensitization, intramuscular, intracutaneous and intradermal reactivity tests. Apparently all docs don’t agree but this is so new on the market that differing medical opinions are naturally going to occur.
The naturally sourced porcine collagen used in EVOLENCE® is claimed to be most genetically similar to human collagen, having been used safely and effectively for decades in various medical applications including heart valve replacement.
EVOLENCE is additionally marketed for use outside the US in Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, South Korea, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Scandinavia, Spain, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland and United Kingdom.
Tomorrow (Monday) I’m be interviewing the distinguished Dr. Paul Lorenc, Clinical Professor, Plastic Surgery, New York University School of Medicine with a private Aesthetic Plastic Surgery practice on Park Avenue, New York City, since 1987. He is a leading medical authority in facial anatomy.
A Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at New York University (NYU) School of Medicine, Dr. Lorenc is closely involved in the research and development of new advances in aesthetic surgical procedures and is internationally recognized by his peers for initiating and perfecting endoscopic surgical techniques.
A pioneer in the development of the new generation of dermal fillers, Dr. Lorenc was the sole aesthetic plastic surgeon involved in clinical research for Restylane He served as Principle Investigator on the EVOLENCE U.S. pivotal study, culminating in FDA confirmation for its use in the United States in June 2008.
Dr. Lorenc is frequently consulted by national and local broadcast news outlets to offer scientific opinions and comment on new aesthetic surgical procedures. He is regularly seen on television, including NBC’s “Today in New York,” “The Today Show,” and “Dateline”; CNN‘s “Larry King Live” and the CNN Presents documentary, “The Fountain of Youth;” the ABC’ Network’s “Good Morning America,” “The View,” and “20/20”; WABC’s “Channel 7 News;” the CBS Network’s “Morning Show,” “The WCBS Evening News” and the Oxygen Channel’s “Life in Style.”
He’ll be my distinguished guest on The Health and Beauty Revolution Show, tomorrow, Monday, July14. And I’ll have more information and part 2 on our Fabulously40.com blog this week.
