Ladies, I read a book  By Nicholas Perricone,M.D on how it is important to eat the colors of the rainbow. Guess what, I tried it and it works. I had so many people ask me what I was doing . They said I looked really healthy. Try it for two weeks ! You will see a big deference. (The book is: The Perricone Promise)

One of the chapters talks about anti-inflammatory,and fat metabolizing supplements.

Boosting production in the energy factory.
It has recipes in the book as well. I thought the book was a great book. I am going to start following it again. I had people tell me I looked great and ask what I was doing.

The book also talks about increase production of collagen and elastin ,repair scars and wrinkles .

    • So guess if Skittles dont work neither will m & m’s. Cute mickeyd. I do love the sound of this book. I have been trying to interest myself in a raw diet. I am not there yet, but the struggle in that direction has helped me leave behind processed foods. I will definitely check this out.

      Thanks,

      Jana

    • I have a VitaMix (high speed blender) and use it quite a bit to make fresh fruit smoothies.  I lowered my cholesterol from 237 to 181 in about 6 weeks with these smoothies (and cutting back on certain foods).  I always put in a banana, apple, frozen strawberries, vanilla yogurt, apple juice, and then add in frozen pineapple, cherries or other fruit I have on hand.  It’s colorful before turning on the blender, like a RAINBOW.  My entire family loves them and they are so healthy!

I guess that makes me “fruity“.

    • I’ve heard about the Perricone plan. I was curious to know what it was like, or if it really worked. Thanks for sharing your story. I need so badly to start eating right. This might be what I need.

    • hmmm, wonder what is happening to my comments? I posted last night. :(  That sounds like a good list of foods Leeann. I wish I could convince my mom to go with raw rainbow foods, if only for a few weeks. I take supplements that have those fruits and veggies in them. At our house we could eat fruits and veggies by the truckload – on a daily basis! My kids love them. 5 lbs of apples only lasts one day. I need an orchard! :)
Much of what we get at the store is nutritionally deficient. Through green harvesting and chemically growing them with corporate farming practices we miss out on the phytonutrients that are so important. Some are predicting that organic foods are going to get less expensive. I hope so. I always have to weight cost vs benefit. I practice what I preach when it comes to supplementing… but not always in the produce section. I just can’t cost justify it knowing it was picked green too. :(

    • I know what you mean happymomma. There is something vital that we lose when produce does not ripen on the vine like it is supposed to. I so wish that we could buy locally rather then having the 1500 mile salad.

I agree that organic has and will go down in cost (relatively speaking of course). I think part of the big merger between Whole Foods and Wild Oats was that they could then compete with the regular grocery stores.  Also part of what is helping  organic food become less expensive is somewhat of a departure of what made them great in the beginning and that is that even organic produce has gone the way of mass production. In many ways it is still better,  but in some ways it is conceding to practices that it tried to get away from.

I think it is great that your kids eat fruit and veggies. Good habits to start out with.

A very interesting read is “The Omnivore’s Dilemna“.

    • Regarding the rainbow colors again….keep it simple by remembering that dark green is best (cabbage is the #1 food to eat), any thing that’s orange or red.  Its simple!  Follow the rainbow colored road!  :)

I think I’ve gotten into the habit of knowing what is best and have shyed away from the rest, its become habit!

    • 46mph,
The 1500 mile salad – I like that! Can I use it in my lectures? :)
The supplements I take are picked ripe so the phytonutrients and antioxidants are in them and processed in a way so they are still in tact. I would love to go back to ‘village’ living where everything was local. With gas prices causing the price of everything to skyrocket, this might be more of a possibility than it has been since corporate farming started.

    • happymomma,

Of course you can use that in your lectures. What lectures by the way? Actually you could increase the distance by checking where produce comes from. I wasnt even referring to some of our produce that comes from South America. The salad comes from CA and I am in FL. So it is all relative. I work in an architecture firm and we mostly provide design for what is called New Urban communities. There is one community in northern Florida that is going totally off the grid. Every lot will have garden space and there will be ample of space for local agriculture for this community and surrounding areas. I really think this is on the way.

While I absolutely hate Walmart and refuse to shop there, I read where they are starting to buy locally for their produce sections. It is for their bottom line, but it would be wonderful if other grocery chains started doing the same thing.

    • Janna,
I am a wellness consultant, and I teach classes related to wellness and weight loss. The presentation I do most often covers the problems we now face in our culture. We live in a toxic environment. We eat, breathe, drink things that are killing us. Problem is there are so many variables we can’t pinpoint the connections, so we develop the mindset – “heck we‘re going to die from something anyway… we might as well continue doing xyz. Besides, it tastes good, or my insurance “pays” for it, or whatever excuse we can use to not make changes. I follow the doom and gloom presentation with simple solutions to better health. Some of them are as simple as drinking purified water and throwing out the microwave.

I really like the idea of off the grid living. We are moving to Colorado, and it if weren’t for my husband’s need to commute to the Denver area, I’d be happy to be out in the middle of the mountains somewhere.

      Sharing Hope,

      Dee Dee
