As I’m getting older, and am having more health issues, I’m finding that the reason for wanting to lose weight has changed.  No longer am I’m wanting to get into that swimsuit, but now I’m wanting to be around to enjoy growing old with my husband.  I think you have to search deep within you to find out what is your real reason for wanting to lose weight?  Is it looks, just to become healthier, is it a matter of life or death?  Once you really figure out why you want to lose weight, it becomes a passion.  Once it becomes a passion, then you will actually commit to losing those pounds and become healthier.

Whatever your passion is for losing weight, we’re in this together!

      Blessings,

      Betty

        • I feel that losing weight has been a societal pressure-one that we have we succumbed to, because we feel it necessary to be as thin as the rest of the people we are surrounded by, who make sure to look like the celebrities do (in my neighborhood anyway).

I think that as long as you are healthy & happy, that is the most important thing. If you are at a weight that you personally are comfortable with- regardless of what everyone else thinks- then let it be!

        • Stephanie,

You are so right!  You have to be happy with yourself first and foremost.  For the last 15 years I didn’t worry about my weight.  I was healthy and happy.  Now that I’m having health issues, losing weight has become my passion in hopes to lose some weight to see if that will take care of the health issues.

          Thank you for your post!

          Blessings,

          Betty

        • Betty, you‘re so right!  Once you identify the reason you want to lose the weight, it becomes a passion!  I’ve had my ups and down and it’s become more of a focus for being healthier and wanting to be around to see my grandchildren!  Now that I’m more focussed, it’s actually working for me!  It’s hard work, but it is definitely worth it to lose a pound or two as time goes on!

        • The thing I DO know Betty is that you have to do it for you, no one else. When you are thinking of doing things for anyone else, it just will not work. I tried to quit smoking 8 times, but never tried to quit for me. Once I tried to quit for me, I quit for good.

Best wishes hun. I will work with you because I surely have my share to lose. I need to reduce the strain on my spine which is falling apart, bit by bit. I have degenerative arthritis there and in my other joints, so the least weight they carry, the better.

          hugs,
          Bren

        • Great post Betty. I hope you are enjoying your weight loss. I know I need to do get started. For me it’s a matter of just feeling comfortable. I don’t want to buy bigger pants, I want to feel comfortable in the pants I own. I definitely feel healthier when I get some exercise.

I need to do that TODAY!

        • Right On, Betty.

Something has come over me lately. I want to take charge of myself. I want to know the feeling of being in charge of my health, weight, and fitness. I want to challenge myself to see “what I’m made of“. I never have. It’s now or never!
