      Hi,
I am just back from Edinburgh, capital city of Scotland. It has been called the Athens of the North with good reason!

It's a great city, not hot but full of warmth! It's my dad's home town and he is buried there with a rather unusal tomb stone. In Mount Vernon if you like that kind of thing!

The Castle dominates all towering above the skyline; it is a great place with a main street flanked by gardens and castle on one side and top shops on the other. It is also on the coast so you get tantalizing glimpses of the sea.

At the moment traffic is chaotic as they are putting in a tram system so lots of roadworks. But the bus system is really good with busess runnng all night. If you are there longer than a week get a pass from the bus office near Waverley station.

By the way, Bordeaux last week was fabby too and they have just finished their tram system, which was very good. And on the first Sunday in the month they close the city to traffic so it is a walker's paradise!
