No, I don’t. My husband teaches an upper school history class and he uses music as his guide through the decades. When the kids hear the stuff of the 50’s 60’s and 70’s they can’t believe it. They all say it’s “way better” than what they listen to. That’s just my thought. Maybe it’s my wish, I really don’t like rap music.

I don’t see why not. It has already obtained a broad audience and acceptance in America’s mainstream culture. Like it or not, rap/hip-hop is here to stay.
I think it already has. I don’t like it and I’ve been waiting for rap to go away since the ‘70s. I gave into listening several years ago only to get my kids to listen to my point of view. That worked. But really, has Rock N Roll gone away?
I am not debating if rap is “good” or “bad“, the fact is it is already ingrained in our society. So ya it will stand the test of time.
Oh well. We’ve actually gotten kind of used to it. My husband is the headmaster of a college prep school and we live just on the edge of the parking lot for the upper school kids so we hear a lot of bass and scratching noises as they‘re driving in and out of the parking lot. Love those kids, though, all 400 of them! I just don’t get their choice of music. But, my parents thought the stuff I listened to was horrible, too.
With all types of music, you have your good and not so good artist. When I was growing up, I was exposed to all types of music. Classical, gospel, country, R&B, rock, house/techno, and when rap when it made it’s appearance in the 70’s. So not only is it here to stay, it has had a “Child” and that child’s name is “Hip Hop” and that child gave birth to “Neo Soul“. So you have to weed out your good rap music and your bad because there is some out there that is just plain raunchy and crude, just as I am sure there is awful crude rock.
I agree with Pinkykay. I was raised on classical music. Played several instruments and became a classical singer. Most people are surprised at what I like to listen to in addition to opera and Chopin. There is hardly a category of music that I DON‘T like, however, as Pinkykay says, there are good styles and bad; preferred artists and not so preferred in every genre. Sometimes it’s strictly personal taste.
I suppose I choose music based on how it catches me. It’s got to have smart musicality, a haunting bass and a good voice that doesn’t make my own throat hurt to hear it. It’s wonderful to have a large repertoire for any and every mood/situation that comes my way. Sometimes the angry stuff really helps me work things out without having to hurt anyone’s feelings (this would include opera, rap, broadway and metal). The only thing that concerns me is the state of some of these kids’ eardrums. The deafness that comes from the loud thumping cannot be fixed by a hearing aid. Hopefully by that time, there will be some new hearing aid for young people in their 40s!! (Maybe we’ll grow our own eardrums in a petri dish
I thank it will stand the test of time.
As King Solomon said in Eccl. 1:9 there's no new thing under the sun.
His father David is the first to write about rap the book of Psalm!!!
Love that thought sammyjo490!
My oldest, a classical singer, likes her hard core rap. Realizing the the out let it gave her I let her listen to it as loud as she liked for 1 hour each day after school. Even her brother and sister couldn’t take more. lol
I think that with the way things are today and the changes that the world has gone through in recent years that it is here to stay…

Do you enjoy music as much as I do
