        • I’m very creative, but I need a product or service.  I pray about it a lot.  I would love to leave the dull drum 9–5:00 office gig that have done for the last 32 years!!!

        • I have a web shop and been participating in art events.  Unfortunately, I had to go back to work (only part-time).

I am still moving forward with the shop and events, although my time is now limited!  Everyday that I go work – is my drive, determination and inspiration to keep going!!!!

          Pushing through the plateau!!!

        • I get in my own way. I have moments of fear. Generally they are short lived and the things that get me through….prayer, playing gospel, take a break and get out of the house, I admit to a drink once or twice a week and every couple of months I get privatly sloshed. (it take about 4 mini vodkas)
In between I read all I can, I’m trying to master my new booking tool. I get up early and go to bed very late and try to stay positive and focused.

But I really think I could use some new ideas.

        • Thank you for your post, ladybug. I, too, get in my own way. sometimes I’m my own worst enemy. I had such horrible conditioning by my mom as a child. She just kept drumming into my head that being a homemaker like her was what to do. I honestly grew up believing I didn’t have a good idea in my head, I wasn’t very smart, I had to be quiet and not talk about my ideas. It has taken a lifetime to work through all this garbage. Self confidence and belief in my capabilities are often trumped by fear of failure.

          Thank you for your honesty!

        • I have struggled with this issue relentlessly. Honestly, in all reality if I’m honest with myself I see in me a pattern that has been there since I was a child…seeking approval. I always wanted my fathers approval for everything..wanted him to be proud of me. Now, I have noticed that I continue that with my husband. I have a business to start but my husband will not come aboard. I finally asked him once and for all if he will just support my dream and he said no and even signed a paper stating he has no interestin being involved in any business endeavor I have. I am crushed, hurt and licking my wounds but I am even more determined than ever to make this work with the Lords help and guidance.

        • You turned to the right Man, God!  He has approved and supporting you, right at this moment!  As you seek His guidance, know this – what door the Lord has opened, no man can shut; and the door He closes, no man can open!

Go for your dreams!  God Bless you!  ...And you know, us ladies are behind you!

        • I agree with sewdiva. I had a business when I met my husband then it took a back seat to my marriage. I’m in the process of resurrecting the business now and bringing it to a place of growth it wasn’t even before I met my husband. He acts like he’s encouraging but really he’s kind of indifferent. Maybe deep inside your husband is really afraid that your success will cause you to rethink your marriage. Just talking off the top of my head, now.

        • I think you may be on something. He constantly avoids talking to me about my dreams and plans. I went as far as taking my business plan to the Economic Development Agency here in town to get their opinion in terms of the validity of the business and if they thought it was a business worth investing in and they loved it and told me to start asap but yet it wasn’t enough for my husband, he still refused.

        • I listen to a lot of Mary Mary. Stress can really get in the way. I try to remember, if I do everything I can think to do God will take over the rest and I’ll be fine. I made the decision to step away from my paycheck and I’m really scared. If I didn’t my business would not happen, I saw that. If I don’t focus all my energy just now when the gate opens for me it will be even harder later and it may not happen at all. I want this and I have prayed and sacrificed for this opportunity. Now that I have the affiliation I’ve wanted I have to go 110% and just get over the fear! This is a good time for prayer and focus and a strict routine.

          I read,
Don’t be afraid to take a big step if one is indicated. You can’t cross a chasm in two jumps.

        • Time management. It is really difficult trying to grow a business that you love while working full-time and having a family. Business takes up most of my time and I feel guilty that I don’t have much time for anything else like i used to.   Despite that, I have no intention of giving up my business which I love. I have been purposely keeping it “smaller” than it could be because I just don’t have anymore time that I can  spend on it. My husband expects me to be able to continue with everything else as it was before I started the business (house cleaning, etc…). He doesn’t seem to realize that it is impossible for things to continue as they were, that he needs to “step-up” and take responsibility for some of those chores.
When I retire from my full-time job (hopefully within the next year), I will have more time for what I truelly love doing.

        • It sounds like many of us women have the same issue when we‘re married. Responsibilities don’t stop or even slow down when we add a business of our own to the mix. We still take care of most of the chores, we still make dinner, we still tend to children if we have them. But I’m still very hopeful that we can make a paradigm switch.

darling2u, I have really changed in the past year after a lot of soul searching. I stood in my husband’s office a couple of weeks ago and told him that I basically trashed my business when I married him. I hurt myself in the process. My chocolate business was growing and thriving 4 years ago. I was building commercial accounts and had a nice retail income. Then I closed my business, moved to Maui to marry him and that was it for my business. It became a “nice little hobby.” Well, in a nutshell, I told him I was going to restart my business with or without his blessing. His reaction was fine because he knows that once I make a decision, I can’t be talked out of it. It takes me a long time to make a decision, I mull things over to death, but when my mind’s made up, that’s it.

So, moral of the story is, I look elsewhere for inspiration and support. Like this site. He walked past me yesterday and I said, “you may not be taking me seriously about my business right now but I bet you’ll change your tune when I start bringing in an income and contributing to our household.”

Share your business plans with the women here and I bet you’ll be showered with support.
          Best
          Cynthia

        • That is exactly why I was so drawn to this site when I saw it listed on facebook. I want to hear from women of substance and knowledge whom share the same trials and challenges as I do and gain their wisdom and hopefully I can provide some in return. I’m blessed with your words and more importantly, encouraged to move forward. Proverbs says that “iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend” thank you all for that!

        • WOW Wonderful insight from everyone.  I am sick today and this is was the best thing I could read while I recover.  Thank you all for your openness!

Leann, I will keep you in my prayers.

I have a few questions for some of you:

Hummingbird, what is it you would love to do or create and not get paid a dime that is useful?

Lady and Chocolatier, are you ready to move out of your own way and take flight?  What is your next step?

Blynch what is your business?  We may be able to help.

Darling2u, wow…that was me several years ago with my mother for different reasons.  What would make you proud of you?  The next thing is, if you had the money to begin, would you need your husband’s help?

Greytdogz, can you have your family partly involved so that it won’t be so heavy on you?

True indeed, life does get in the way…but the question is how do we control it to get some of our time back?  Look at the weekly challenge post.

Would anyone be interested in a “free” biweekly or monthly call 1 weekday evening or a weekend morning or afternoon?

          L. Denise

        • Hello Idenise!

Hope you are feeling better.  Great Question!  I have a home based business and before as a Realtor, had a home office too. Let us just say this I have worked from home for over 20 years now.  It is wonderful, but it takes LOTS of discipline.  Imagine you are going to work and make a schedule.  Now I am living my dreams, the best type of work I’ve ever done.  And like you asked Hummingbird, “what is it you would love to do or create and not get paid a dime that is useful?”  My response will be to do exactly what I am doing right now! To Share Health & Wealth. Are you aware that you can be Rich, but not Wealthy?  If you are super rich and don’t have health?....  I believe you have Wealth, when you have the health and the money.  Since I train others as well around the world, I encounter time management being the first obstacle.  We all know that if we are home WE are ALWAYS going to find something to do that is not work related.  Once you write your “schedule” on paper, it becomes easier. My daughter was raised with me working from home.  I always made time for her and put that on the schedule as well.  She always knew when it was that special time. The phone, even with my boyfriend, when is “our time” even to watch TV, I just don’t answer work related calls.  Kind of difficult at times.  I love to offer the person that they can become a “Preferred Customer” absolutely FREE! and buy at wholesale.  To help others, fills my heart with JOY and here I am doing it.  That is why I chose not to sell “Retail”  Others with this company do,and that is fine, it is their choice.

In my case I don’t like to travel from November until February and rather spend the Summer in the area.  So, just limiting my travel time, I am aware I am slowing the progress.  At least I don’t stop it.  We have computers!  So I train over the internet.

To living out of “The Box“,
          Maritza

        • “What would make you proud of you” that is a good question LDenise but the answer is no mystery. To open my business would bring me such a sense of accomplishment because it would finally put to rest the hurtful remarks told to me about being a gifted person in terms of business ideas but unfortunately unable to see them through. I would feel proud because I was able to put the fear aside and take a step of faith.

“If I had the money to start this business would I still need my husbands help” unfortunately, no. What I was seeking from him was his emotional support. I wanted him to say to me, “I don’t understand how this is going to work but whatever you need me to do to help you, just let me know.” That response is what I expected from my husband, my best friend and protector; sadly it was quite the opposite.

        • I would love to do something like this. I am very creative and have what they say “I’m good at everything but an expert in nothing.”

I find it hard to pick what would be the best avenue for me.
I can be very crafty, creative to very business oriented. I have a passion to train and do workshops.  I am a volunteer coordinator at the moment for seniors.

I wouldn’t know where to begin. The biggest fear for me would be failure. I’m a single mom and need an income.

        • ldenise,
Thanks for the challenge. I’m already on this one. I don’t have an alcohol problem but is doesn’t help so I stopped drinking altogether.
Every accomplishment makes me stronger. Sometimes I stop and make a list of what I have accomplished in the past week or month. With all the prayers I send up would I let the Lord down, no, he wouldn’t let me down. So, when I say 110% I mean it and it’s already paying off.
I fight off the stress, I’ve been exercising more, taking care of how I eat. (see my blog about self image or throwing in the towel) I have to take my entire self to another level.
I validate myself through work and when I look in the mirror so I have to acknowledge that and go with it. I do everything I can think of!

        • Darling2u….thank you for sharing.  Can I ask what the business is, unless it is a super secret?  I know how protecting your idea is and you can email me instead.  Someone may be able to help you begin.

I know about the emotional support.  I have a friend who gives support but either wants to be too involved in my dream to take over or wants to talk about his dream and forgets that I have my own.

        • This is kind of hard for me to talk about because I am always trying to remind people to stay positive and work toward their goals etc..
I think this is my true calling in life. Becca mentioned that she was good at everything but an expert in nothing…that’s exactly how I feel at times.
I have had really good ideas in the past and started so may projects that I can’t even count them.

I would never follow through on the things that I would start and eventually end up feeling defeated and not very good about myself.
Through all of this my husband would help me both financially and emotionally for the most part.  But with every failure I think I have chipped away at his faith in me.
I realized just this year really, why I was sabotaging myself myself. I was not only fearful of failure but of also succeeding.
I have for the past thirteen years have had a dream of opening an inspiration retreat for women in the Caribbean.
But now that I have finally worked through my phobia’s my husband is just really not enthused. Nor can he afford to help at this point. So now I try to find inspiration from where ever I can.
I hate saying that I can't afford something because I believe that what you put into the universe you only get more of the same so I am trying to find a way know to find the income so that I can do it on my own. And I am DERTERMINED to do this.
I not only want this for me but I also want it for him.  He has helped me so much in the past and he really works so hard. Lately he looks so tired all the time. I want to be able to help in our situation but find it hard because I am starting so late in the game.
          Wow… I didn’t mean to write a book…lol

        • Dear friend, as I read your words a very familiar feeling came over me. You have just told my story and, I’m venturing to guess, the story of many of us. I needed to hear it, you had the courage to say it.

When I talk of bringing my business back to life, I see my husband’s eyes glaze over. Even as I take all the steps, purchase new equipment, get everything in place, he still has that “I’ll believe it when I see it” look.

          Which only strengthens my resolve.

I have found the inspiration to do all of this from reading the posts of women like Yana, Shepherdess, Carine and other women who juggle home, work, life and make it all thrive.

I believe that the kindness that exists here can lift all of us up.

It’s really hard to stay motivated when you know you are ready “finally” to take that next step but you feel you don’t have the comfort of knowing the safety net you once had or your source of emotionally support is there.
But it just dawned on me even as I write this that, I am exactly where I need to be right at this very moment. I am growing, stretching myself.
I asked to be here to prove to myself and to my husband that I can stand on my own. I know that it will turn out the way I want… it or something better.
I know this is why I stumbled upon this site, just like so many other woman have said.  I asked for guidance and here I am ( the law of attraction!)I know that I need to remain open, focused and still so the that I will find the answers to my questions.
Even though my situation is scary at times I won’t let fear stop me this time.

        • Almost 50 but really 27…let me say this…I have done that and here I am after many years and about to turn 40, November 20, I am coming into what I really love and want to do.  It was not a short journey.  I had to go through the process of loving me and accepting all my physical faunts.  Then I moved onto gaining peace (and sometimes that meant being alone) in my life.  From there, I went on to try various things and strengthening skills that turned into a lucrative career, however, the past 5 years I have been investigating my passion to make sure I was pursuing my passion to fund my retirement.  There are a few things that I know I can do well, and then I had to narrow it…that was the hard process.  I was single and most men I dated didn’t understand because it took too much time from them.  My soulmate who I was engaged to passed away…so…I was alone trying to do this.

I met a wonderful mentor at one time who ended up being my best friend and he passed away a few years ago, and my progressed stopped temporarily.  Now I have a wonderful friend, who is my new mentor that is perfect for me.

While you were going all through that, you had someone; I just relied on me.  At this stage, I would say, do all you can alone and show your husband that an effort or dream is working profitably and the faith you think he lost will come back.

To begin, I would begin retreats for women where you are located.  You have a base right now of women to tell…so design and whatever ideas I can help you with we are here to help you.

I hope this helps.  Make it happen.
