Well I started Atkins and it works and I have sworn off bread and sweets so I bake with splenda and no flour.
Because I still love to bake. Ill have a bathrobe day and want to bake and do geneology research or other work. Its a slow but great diet especially for those on the run like me. I eat out alot and it makes it easier to go with friends.
Atkins really does work. I am on my own version of Atkins now, cause about every six weeks I have a slice of cheesecake with real sugar or some other special treat. Helps me to not feel deprived. I used to drink a six pack of pepsi a day, I don’t miss it a bit anymore. The few times I have had a pepsi, it doesn’t even taste good. I have lost a total of 103 lbs. with about 30 more to go. I feel wonderful. Good luck with your weight loss.
Yes, yes, Atkins works. I tried the Induction period last year and lost 5 kgs (11 pounds) in two weeks. I´m planning to do it for life now, as they say you must commit forever…
Patricia, I just started the diet on Friday and it seems I’ve gained a couple of pounds. I’m staying within 20–40 carbs a day which is good compared to the 300 carbs I was taking in before! How long did it take you before you saw any weight loss? And yes, I’m very impatient but I want to know I’m not giving up my potatoes and ice cream for nothing! Also, did you have any health problems because of the increased protien intake?
Those couple of pounds could just be fluid. I tried the diet too. I found it worked. I couldn’t stick to it forever though. I eat something close to it now, as I can’t eat gluten – this cuts out a lot of stuff. I do try to eat fruits and vegetables and nuts. As I get older I find I don’t digest as well, so I’m careful. I don’t do much dairy either – lots of goat cheese though. My only sweetners are honey occasionally, stevia and very occasionally dark raw cane sugar. I do have the odd treat, but I work out more now – almost every day. I walk for 45 minutes (fast), or do gym machines for 45 mins.
But, having said all of this, I do struggle with energy levels and weight loss, as I have hypothyroidism. It’s a pain to keep the meds balanced right. But, any of you are doing everthing right and still don’t lose – get the thyroid checked.
I totally understand the hypothyroidism Tracy. I was on Synthroid for about 10 years. My TSH level was tested every 6 months but I was eventually taken off the meds and now the docs tell me my level is normal. Before the Atkins diet I had real low energy and I insisted something was wrong. Since I’ve been on the diet (a week tomorrow) I feel more energetic. Not bouncing off the walls or anything, I just don’t have the “dropsies” anymore. I can go through the day without the feeling of exhaustion. It must be true about the negative effects of all those carbs!
I went to the doctor last Thursday and girlfriend broke it down plain. She told me after looking at my blood work report do something or you will be on medications for various things. I asked the question, is it the do to my weight gain? and she told me yes. I looked her straight in the face and said these words, I’m not starting tomorrow, or Sunday, I’m starting now, It’s on!
I went in there feeling horrible and just these few days I feel so much better. Atkins does work and like anything you have to work at it. How can I be all that and my body is jacked up? Wrong!
Okay, I guess you noticed I’m crazy. LOL LOL LOL
Update: I started on 9/24 today is 10/5 and I’m down 13.5 lbs.
Very interesting about being hypothyroid and eating carbs.
Hmmmmmmmmm Because I sure do get those afternoon slumps.
Arghhhh I have been watching my carbs, but maybe I need to cut them even more.
In addition, I wish I could use an alternative sugar substitute like Splenda, but they really bother my stomach.

I have tried Atkins, and Sugar Busters and Weight Watchers and…you name it. They were all great…for a few months.
Now I have found that Isagenix give you the same benefits and is WAY EASIER than Atkins or any of the rest. I have been using the products for over a year and have gone from a size 26 to an 18 (still losing slowly...which I think is key...slowly). It is high protein and filled with dense nutrition...so instead of cutting out any one (or two) food group you can eat a balanced diet and see amazing results.
Not only have I released a ton of weight but my health has turned around and without cutting out half the food groups! Mind you, I no longer crave coffee or chocolate or salty food like I used to. Also,I am not a total white bread/cake & cookies girl to begin with. But Isagenix has really turned my health around and made me feel like a 'normal' person - not having to think about or count every piece of food that goes in my mouth.
Saying all that – whatever works for you on the long haul on the road to better health is what is important!

The problem with the Atkins Diet is that the initial weight loss upon starting the diet is a phenomenon common with most diets, and is due to reduction in stored glycogen and related water in muscles, not fat loss.
Yes, you can lose weight with the Atkins Diet but you are losing muscle and not fat. When you lose muscle, you are losing your body’s natural ability to burn fat. By the time you reach your weight loss goal, your body now has more fat than muscle.
Have you ever gained your weight back and then some after dieting? This is because your body is now less equipped to burn fat because of the muscle loss.
If I could show you a patented program that is designed to help your body lose fat and keep its lean muscle, would you be interested in learning more?
