For me personally, and I might add temporarily, it has been trying to get enough sleep. Too many things to do and not enough hours in a day. I am so passionate about everything that I feel the willingness to stay up to complete the task. I realize the next morning that maybe that wasn’t such a great idea. So I’ve learned to not burn the midnight oil as much. What about you? Share your thoughts?
I’d love to hear your thoughts.
I actually went through a similar obstacle several year ago.
I was overstressed with work throughout the day, and had to continue catching up on things throughout the night.
From there I was so wired in my head, but my body was exhausted.
I would make myself go to sleep, and would toss and turn for hours.
If I wouldn’t wake, I would have ridiculous nightmares.
I finally realized that I needed to slow down and prioritize, and start exercising.
This was a big change for me. I slowly started walking with a girlfriend and soon started going to the gym.
This has honestly changed my life. I have more energy throughout the day, and sleep better at night.
I wake up ready to go about my day, and am excited to hit the gym again.
While my eating habits are pretty healthy, I have been able to eat more fatty foods because i work out, and havent gained weight.
Wow, life has really changed.
Great suggestions Angie… I joined a gym :)and started to go again recently. So all I have to do now is stay motivated and create a routine. As for slowing down… no chance of that happening anytime soon with three active boys and a business to run. I have no problems falling asleep though and welcome naps even if it’s for 15 mins. at a time which really does the trick for me. Thanks for sharing. Feel free to start a new post/blog/experience/story/questions, etc.
Would love to hear from you soon…
Have a wonderful day!

the biggest obstacle in my life would be taking care of myself, learning how to nurture myself. Searching to find my “niche” in life has been the biggest journey.
My life has changed after a car accident.. People ask me if I get depressed because I can’t do what I used to do.. No I stay positive and keep as busy a possible.. I am just glad to be here and have a partner that is very supportive.. I love my life and all my friends old and new.. I just turned 5o but feel 40.. It’s just a number..
Ginny- I agree, age is just a number, it is about how you live that matters.
Time has no stop watch, take every second and treasure it we everyone close to you.. This is what life is about, material things come and go…
I have been the biggest obstacle in my life. Now that I am over empty nest depression I appreciate myself more. I am motivated to live and enjoy the rest of my life. I feel I am at the beginning of a wonderful and beautiful experience. I love this site for being here and being able share these thoughts. It’s the personal growth that allows me to be less of an obstacle to my own success.
I’m actually facing my biggest obstacle soon. I’ve been a stay-at-home mom for almost 20yrs. I’ve got one off to college followed by another next year…and that’s it. I’m 47 years old and have no idea what I want to be when I grow up!
I went to school for retail management (that’s how long ago it was!) and then was in various management positions until I had my first child in 1990.
Since then, I’ve been pretty much at home, taking jobs within the school system so that I would be available for my kids and becoming a “wicked” control freak in the process! My husband works various hours, so I wasn’t really able to get anything that would work with our hectic schedules.
My youngest is a senior now, and I’m still doing part-time work so that I can drive him to work, after school activities, etc.
I’m not sure I want to go back into retailing, can’t afford to go back to school with two in college and have a resume that looked great twenty years ago, but now is obsolete!!!
Sorry for such a long post, but I’m a “newbie” at this and really, really needed to vent. I welcome all and any replies, and if not, it was great to be just getting it out there!!!
Any possibility of taking some time to just “be” once your youngest heads off to college? If you don’t have to jump into work right away, might be nice to not have an absolute schedule. That’s one to look at it but, as I write this I realize that some people would rather be busy when going through difficult times. You’ll know best what works for you. I wish you well
Cynthia
The obstacle I find coming as me too often is when I stress over every bump in the road. Thankfully I don’t do this all of the time. But when I do I have to shake it off and get back in the game.

the biggest obstacle in my life has been the flooding of my home, the loss of my possessions and having to start over.
In Love And Always Loving
To mimi29: You took the words right out of my mouth. I also do not know what I want to be when I grow up and I’m 51 years old! I am an empty nester. My youngest is starting her junior year in college and my son received his bachelor’s in 2006. Every year it gets a little more bearable, but motherhood was such a big part of my life for so long that it has taken me a long, long, long time to adjust. I started college late after I was married and had a 5 year old and a 9 year old. That was really rough. I dropped out after 2 1/2 years without completing my degree. I finally just got back in. My husband and I can not afford for me to go back either, but fortunately my employer will pay for my education if it is compatible with my current position and I continue to work for them at least 3 years after earning my degree. The big challenge for me is the continue to work for them part.
You know life was so much easier to start mentally when I was younger, especially as a young adult. Nowe that I am older, it is harder to make adjustments. Everything is hard to adjust. Items, life time, schedule changes, I seem to mentally fight against more. I have to spend more time, preparing myself to adjust. Some changes are exciting and easier to make, others are harder. Just trying to figure out the best time of day to exercise is trying. I feel out of control of my schedule. Between work, family, home, how many hours there are in an day. It is harder.

MY issue is time management and the internet
Ever since the internet, my sewing pile just gets higher & higher and I never pay attention to it at all.
Seems that being on the computer can be very counterproductive in many ways…and I dont get to my to do list because even though I am also working on the computer, I’m also surfing round here n there..
My biggest obstacle has been trying to please everyone else except for myself. I do and do and do for others and I fall through the cracks and start to feel resentment.
I educate and empower women

Pureromancealdy: never feel resentment for doing for others, that is what life is about.. We tend not to give enough in the world around us.. You will be paid back greatly for that!!! Stay true to your self and try not to be used, the people that use others will not get the satisfaction you will out of life..
Abandonment….Being adopted, being given away, regardless of the reason, those issues exist. For the longest time I was a people pleaser because if I pleased everyone then they would like me & would never leave me. It took me well into my adult years to overcome that issue or obstacle, however I have won.
Working as a woman in a predominately mans occupation. Tables turned as Im the most written about in my field and a movie was made about my life. None about my male competitors.. so, I guess Ive jumped that hurdle. HA
Cherokee have you found your birth parents or looked ?

Greeneyedlady,
Oh, yeah I’ve met both of them. My birth father passed away about 4 years ago & I keep in semi-contact with my birth mother. I have 2 full-blooded siblings. 1 half-sister & 3 half-brothers. I was raised with one of the half-brothers as our parents adopted him when I was 2 1/2. Then….there is a half-sister on my birth-fathers side. She knows nothing of my existence. My birth-father knew nothing of my existence either until I showed up on his doorstep one day. I am a female version of the man. He was Cherokee, very nice and much older when I met him & very accepting of me as well. Growing up adopted & being Indian in a “clorox” world I looked like no one….Out of all the blood siblings, I still look like no one. No one except my birth father. It was quite an experience. I’ve been told I should write a book.
Cherokee, I can see your Cherokee side, Im also Cherokee, and my children more than I as thier fathers all had Cherokee, its a noble and forgotten breed. My ancesters told many stories, you should write a book Cherokee woman.. we are a dying breed. My grandmother told me the Cherokee will ride again, it was her belief until she died. Her husband came to her in feathers and braids in a vision, before she passed on. We are a very spiritual people.. be proud and hold your head up. As far as you abandonment, from what I read your father did not deny you. A Cherokee knows his blood child, we do. Did your birth mother tell you why she left you, Im betting she just couldnt afford a child, many women who cant chose better homes. My grandmother would sing me to sleep with Cherokee songs that many I forgot, I am thinking you should embrace what you are. Find out about your people about your father and family. If you havent already, your abandonment may changed to acceptance. It is a clorox world, I see it and see the land so commercialized it hurts my soul.

Procrasination; impatient; guilt upon guilt; low self esteem; ....oh, the 100 or 1000 thou shall not.. are my downfalls.

All my opinions are in no representation of the company I work for; nor relate to my occupation. It is my opinion & my very humble opinion only. Also FYI, English is my 2nd language.
My greatest obstacle is never feeling like I am succeeding at anything at work. I want to advance to become a Manager, but don’t feel like I know how to do it. I feel very insecure about it and have been turned down for advancements recently.
ljblondie: Sometimes the employers seek is the confidence for they do not expect you would know all things. I am sure you can and you will if you just feel good about yourself. You are your biggest enemy. If you tell them you are willing to learn, and take whatever you need to be successful, they will feel that vibe. I am in the same state you are if you want to further connect. I am sure You CAN and start to say “I can” many times in front of the mirror. I believe in you!

I am so glad that I am no longer in the trap of trying to please my boss. Don’t get me wrong. I still have to work hard but no one is standing over me like a cruel taskmaster. I work for myself. I work at home. I ware no uniform. The rewards are all mine. I share the profits with my family and not the boss.
Lifestyle Prosperity is what I am working toward and not a meager existence living paycheck to paycheck.
