...by Junot Diaz
I’m about half way through this book and love it.
Oscar is a sad character, being brought up in an immigrant’s world. You see things from his perspective and from those around him.
The characters are described well but not overly described. You feel their emotions and experience their lives. It is written so well you just fly through the text.
There is a little spanish here and there in the book, but just a a little – so if you don’t speak spanish it doesn’t take away from the story and if you do, all the better.
This book was the winner of the 2008 National Book Critics Circle Award and the 2008 Pulitzer Prize, for Fiction.

Just as a follow up…
The book did not disappoint. It is a little sad as it is meant to be, but there are glimmers of hope and happiness throughout.
You get a great view of life in the Dominican Republic over the course of several years.
I found it to be a worthwhile read.

I was curious about this book and had read an excerpt on my kindle. After reading your review I think this may be the next book I download! Thanks for the review.
I’ve already given the book to friends. They are loving it. Please let me know what you think. Like you, I also love to read. Right now I’m reading Suite Francais.

I’m wondering what you think of Suite Francaise. I found it too strangely paced. Obviously it’s extremely important as a period piece, for historical reasons. But as a novel on it’s own, I found it too florid. Let me know what you think? It looks like we‘re reading the same things!
Here’s the review…
