Do you also love chea pashminas like most of other women? Yes ! . If so then you will also be surprised to know that most of so called Pashminas available in market are fake. Even if you are buying from very high end store, that also doesn’t make sure that it is authentic.
Do you know that “Pashmina” word is synonym of ” Cashmere “? But because Pasmina is not recognized as fabric under wool act, all manufacturers or retails are misusing the word. Some retailer are selling Shawl made from SHEEP WOOL and selling them as Pashminas.
The Cashmere & Camel Hair Manufacturers Institute (CCMI)was established to promote the use of genuine cashmere and to protect the interests of manufacturers, retailers and consumers of these products. And they are final authority in testing cashmere and pashmina products.
Here is what CCMI says "Because there is no consistently understood definition of the term "pashmina", CCMI regards the use of the term in signage or promotional literature for cashmere and silk blends, to be misleading. Pashmina is not a descriptive, generic term. CCMI considers the use of the term "pashmina" on required garment labels and in the absence of the appropriate designation "cashmere" to be in violation of labelling regulations and to be misleading to the consumer. The Institute will take action against such mislabelling." Here is complete Article if you want to read more.
In past CCMI has found fake Pashminas at stores of Laura Ashley.
I have made a page to collect everyone's thoughts on pashmina. It will be great of you if you can go to VOTE for Pashmina and give your thoughts provides detailed information about Pashmina.

Everyone loves cashmere because it is soft, light in weight and keeps us warm in winters. But hardly few of us know actually what cashmere is and how it is produced. So I thought to share this post with the community here.
Fine undercoat of Cashmere goat is used to produce cashmere fabric. “Cashmere” name has been derived from state of “Kashmir” in north of India. Kashmir is the known source from where first time cashmere was imported to various parts of world.
A fabric can only be named cashmere if it fulfils following conditions:
* Fine undercoat fibres collected from a cashmere goat
* the average diameter of the fibre should be less than 19 micron
* coefficient of variation should not be more than 24%
* coarse hair content (hairs with diameter great than 30 micron) should not be more than 3%(by weight)
There is very popular myth about cashmere that cashmere goats are killed or harmed physically. But it is not right. Cashmere is shed naturally by cashmere goats and is combed of in friendly way from cashmere goat in spring.
I will be writing more about cashmere soon.
