  • My Vacation- or Work For That Matter!

Posted on Friday, August 8, 2008

Whatever happened to relaxing on vacation?

Well I can’t say that I did not have the time of my life on a 10 day trip to Israel where I was completely disengaged from all technology.

    israel

However this trip was jam packed with activities from day till night. Each day wake up calls frightened me in my sleep at 6:30 am and I had to pack and have my things out of the hotel, ready to go explore Israel and sleep at another hotel- to which we would arrive at 1 am that night.

Israel was the most incredible experience of my life. We went all over the country on a bus, visiting dozens of places and not taking a moment to breathe.

From kayaking, rock climbing, hiking to waterfalls, camel riding, swimming in the dead sea, and much more – I surpassed what I thought I was capable of.

When you have 40 people cheering you on to climb down a mountain, you don’t really have a choice but to get your butt down the thing with a smile on your face (Even if you are terrified of heights).

Although I am sitting here jet lagged and exhausted, I am so thrilled that my trip was full of excitement and constant activities.

I may be tired, but this sleepiness will go away, yet the memories will stay forever.

  • It Always Happens To Me

Posted on Wednesday, July 23, 2008

It always happens to me. Every time you convince yourself that it will never happen to you, it happens to me. On July 1st I woke up prepared for the new hands free cell phone law. While I inhaled my morning coffee and proceeded to burn my tongue, I sent out a mass text message to all of my friends and family warning them to use an earpiece or speaker phone will driving.

In an attempt to put on my sneakers while standing, I tripped, as the hallway wall caught me. Nevertheless, this would be fall number 3 of the week and a new bruise added to my collection on my flabby pale bum.

I managed to stand up and convince myself that today would be a good day.

My boyfriend and I scurried down the stairs- he had to be at work in 11 minutes, and if I got him there on time I would be labeled superwoman- if not I would be once again blamed for my bad habit of sleeping past 7:30am.

I was superwoman- he was there with a minute to spare. I took a deep breathe, got into the driver seat, and had to call my sister to tell her about my hectic morning.

Of course- she doesn’t answer. I call again- no answer. So then what happens next? You guessed it, I hear sirens, and I get pulled over for talking on my cell phone.

“I didn’t know, really officer,” I mumbled, lying through my teeth. I began to cry, pleading for mercy from the cop. He felt no pain, and continued to write up my ticket as I bawled uncontrollably.

He informed me of my court date, and had me sign as I attempted to ask him how much this would set me back.

    $20.00- he responded.

Before it I was on my way with a smile.

The best part of the story? I tried paying this measly fee and there is no record of the citation in the system.

  • Men Don't Listen and Women Nag - Survey!

Posted on Tuesday, July 8, 2008

A new survey has reinforced what many already believe men do not listen, women nag and couples argue most about money and parenting.

The survey commissioned by Relationship Services, and funded by Telecom’s Community Connection programme and the Lottery Grants Board, found 78 percent of couples experience ongoing disagreements.

Of those, 40 percent disagreed about money, 31 percent about work pressures, 29 percent about time pressures, 26 percent bickered over housework and 25 had disagreements about sex.

Relationship Services spokeswoman Hilary Smith said most people learn to deal with disagreements and those who seek counselling usually do so for the issues that arise regularly.

“Even in the happiest, longest lasting of relationships, couples disagree.”

The survey found couples in newer relationships (3–7 years) argued more than those in long term relationships (over 21 years).

It also revealed that couples with children disagreed more than those without.

Eighty six percent of people with children at home were likely to argue compared with 68 percent of those without children.

“Having children at home intensifies the stresses on parents but it also makes a difference to the way people deal with disagreements. Parents were more likely to take a team approach…because more is at stake,” Ms Smith said.

Of the men questioned 30.7 percent said nagging was a problem with their partners while 40.5 percent of women said not listening was.

“We were not surprised that the survey found a difference between men and women around communication.”

Ms Smith said the disagreements were a normal part of a relationship.

“For a quarter of people, disagreements and how they dealt with them actually had a positive impact on how they felt about their relationship and their partner.”
